WELCOME! 🪴

Quick start:

What is the Social Gardens project?

The easiest way to think of a social garden is this:

  1. Social Gardens bring together like-minded nomads, expats and locals.
  2. A “garden” is a group of people who come together in a way that is beneficial to them (see below for more on this).
  3. As a community, we’ll experiment with fresh ways to come together (like 1-2 month popup villages, weekend excursions, etc).
  4. As a community, we’ll look for ways to collaborate and partner with local communities, local orgs and even governments. Put simply: we want to help push the nomad movement forward.

Little Gardens vs Big Gardens vs Online Gardens

Little Gardens: Good people to socialize with, wherever you are

WhatsApp groups tailored for nomads and remote workers (expats and locals included). Every 3 months, join new WhatsApp chats based on your location and interests. These groups then self-organize weekly hangouts so it is easy to cultivate friendships, level-up and go on adventures with like-minded people.

Note: the goal is for the community to get to the “wherever you are” part. This will take time. 🙂

Big Gardens: Popup city adventures

I'd also love to experiment with us organizing a popup city in late 2024. What is a popup city? A popup city where 50 -250 like-minded people go to the same city and neighborhood(s) to live for 1-2 months. They include coworking & hangout areas, programming to encourage collaboration and skill-sharing (both amongst the group and with locals), partnerships with local orgs like universities and a WhatsApp group for self-organized hangouts / excursions / meals, etc.

Online Garden: Learnings & Support, wherever you are

You won’t always have people involved with Social Gardens in the same city as you (especially early on), but there will be still ways to benefit from Social Gardens. We’ll experiment with ways to leverage the collective community to host speaker sessions, a regular Town Hall, etc.
